Ballard School Board Meeting Summary
Ballard Homecoming Week:
This is homecoming week at Ballard, with the theme “Rock the Night Away.” The updates from the Principals included highlights of the activities and events going on at each building. Elementary students kicked off the week with “hat day” today. Family members and friends will be rummaging through storage bins to find the vintage “Rock Band T-shirts” for high school students to wear on Thursday. Students, families, and friends are invited to the Community Tailgate this Thursday in the High School Parking Lot from 5:00 – 7:00 with the Coronation following around 7:15. The Football game is Friday night.
Ballard Cell Phone Policy:
Mr. Deason’s update from the High School included an encouraging report on the implementation of the new cell-phone policy requiring students to keep phones in their lockers. There have been very few infractions of the policy. More importantly, the teacher’s observations are that students are more engaged in their classes! Students are interacting with each other and building stronger community connections.
Updated Lighting at Ballard Middle School:
The School Board approved the quote and purchase of new lighting and a lighting control board for the Middle School Auditorium. This includes LED fixtures that can be programmed for various effects and intensity levels. It also includes a new console to control fixtures, brightness and make real-time adjustments. Current lighting is in need of repair and is controlled by switches on the breaker panel at the back of the stage.
Director of Building and Grounds:
The Board members approved an updated job description for the Director of Building and Grounds presented by Dr. Trimble. After several years of using contracted services, the district will switch back to a full-time director with oversight of the facilities and grounds, along with supervision of the custodial teams at each building. The district will be conducting a search for this position. The board encourages qualified and interested candidates to watch for the position description to be posted.
